Competency and Design

New regulations to ensure buildings are designed, constructed and maintained safely

What is Competency?

“… for an individual to be considered competent means that they need to have the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience, combined with appropriate behaviours, to be able to fulfil their defined role, function or activity and carry out appropriate tasks. This is sometimes referred to in shorthand as SKEB.” – Built Environment Core Criteria for building safety in competence frameworks – code of practice

Visqueen’s technical teams have a combined 250 years of technical experience, and coupled with the following, we can demonstrate a high level of competency in the built environment.

  • Invest in training and educating our people
  • Hold professional certification, such as CSSW (Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing)
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines
  • Comply with Building Codes and regulations
  • Deliver designs that promote accountability, competence and early engagement

Golden Thread of Information

Central to the Building Safety Act is the concept of the golden thread of information.  Visqueen has adopted the golden thread for all projects classified as higher-risk buildings during the occupation phase, to ensure our project information is easily accessible throughout the building's lifecycle.

Additionality, Visqueen will stay informed of industry developments and legislative updates related to the Building Safety Act’s Golden Thread of Information and will implement any necessary changes as required.

The Visqueen golden thread:

  • Data kept digitally
  • Data kept securely
  • Accountable – who did what and when
  • Clear and consistent – standard methods across the business
  • Accessible - clients, appointed persons and duty holders
  • Shareable and relevant
